   The free stuff section on craigs list or freecycleorg you can also advertise at local schools and churches to donate.

   The area can understand your rush but if you would receive more donations just by posting flyers and contacting churches in the area.
   My experience people are happy to gather items im sure you could give people are happy to gather items out of donations in the area can understand.
